Road Safety
There has never been a major incident on our roads and we would like to keep it that way. The road serving 112 homes in The West Village is narrow and there are no sidewalks, so we ask that both drivers and pedestrians be cautious when using the road, especially at the intersections within the development, and that drivers observe the 25km speed limit.
We had a lengthy discussion at the June 3rd 2014 annual general meeting about road safety in the development. The committee was asked to follow up with a message to residents. A paper version was distributed to everyone. To read the electronic version of the 2014 message, please click here. To read the 2012 message on the same topic, please click here.
No Parking on the Roads
Parking is not permitted at any time on West Village Private or Bank Note Private. Residents are responsible for their own vehicles and those of their visitors. We cover the major points on parking below, but for the detailed version please see the Reciprocal Agreement.
Visitor Parking is for Visitors
There are three visitor parking lots in The West Village, each capable of holding six cars. Visitor parking lots are for visitors only. If you have a visitor, please ensure that they park their car in visitor parking and that you use your own driveway; otherwise, you risk getting a ticket (see below). If visitor parking is full, your visitors should park outside The West Village.
Effective July 1, 2025 – Registration for visitor parking is always required (24 hours per day, 7 days per week).
Registration is required for all visitors, including day and overnight guests, contractors, cleaners, etc.
Guests staying overnight may book up to 3 days at a time. Please reach out to the Co-Tenancy Committee if your guest will be staying for more than 3 days. Residents can request temporary access to visitor parking on-demand for short periods of time or for special conditions. Examples include contractor access, handicapped visitors, driveway being redone, etc.
Please note: Resident access to temporary visitor parking is at the discretion of the Co-Tenancy Committee. Abuse could result in privileges being revoked and/or parking enforcement. After a third parking offense, the resident’s car can and will be towed at their own risk and expense.
Visitor Parking in the Winter
Effective 2019 – and still in force
Having residents’ and visitors’ cars parked in the visitor parking during snow clearing and snow removal operations raises significant safety risks for residents, visitors, and snow removal contractors.
For this specific safety reason, we are implementing updated measures to the existing visitor parking policy.
NO VEHICLES (including both residents and visitors) can be parked in the visitor parking during snow storm alert periods and until snow removal operations are completed.
WVP will follow the City of Ottawa winter parking bans as a policy.
WVP residents can be informed of the City of Ottawa winter parking bans by selecting Winter Parking Alerts while registering at:
https://ottawa.ca/esubscriptions/signup-form-en.html
All vehicles parked in the visitor parking lots during snow alert periods and until all snow removal operations are completed in the respective visitor parking lots can and will be towed at the owner’s risk and expense.
If the snow alert is over, but all visitor parking lots are full of snow and there is an urgent need to pile additional amounts, there is a new emergency contingency plan.
Snow will be piled in front of the northwest end visitor parking in case of an emergency. The street in that direction will be blocked in such instances, and all residents will have to enter and exit from the other side of West Village.
At all times, no residents’ driveways will be blocked, and fire hydrants will be accessible for the City of Ottawa emergency services.
Enforcement
Effective July 1, 2025 – Registration for visitor parking is always required (24 hours per day, 7 days per week).
Registration is required for all visitors, including day and overnight guests, contractors, cleaners, etc. Security rounds will be performed randomly. After a third parking offense, non-registered cars or residents abusing their parking privileges will be towed at their own risk and expense.
On your behalf, the Co-Tenancy Committee has contracted Valourguard Protection Services to provide parking enforcement in The West Village. They are authorized by the City of Ottawa to issue tickets. Valourguard Protection Services staff patrol The West Village regularly. Valourguard uses the Smart Parking app to validate that vehicles in visitor parking have registered.
Registration for Visitor Parking
Effective July 01, 2025 – West Village Co-Tenancy now uses Smart Parking Apps as our parking registration provider.
Each unit owner has two options for registering.
1. You can register your guest yourself via your unit holder access. Access is initially provided by the Co-Tenancy Committee. This level of access allows you to monitor your usage as well as visitors that have attributed their registration to you.
2. Your visitor may also register themselves. Please remind them to register using Smart Parking. Unregistered cars could be ticketed or towed. Visitors can self-register using one of the following methods:
QR code affixed to our visitor parking signs (pending to be installed by fall 2025)
Via the Smart Parking App
